Immigration Updates
U VISA Updates
In June of 2021, USCIS announced two changes that affect people with pending or approved U visa cases. First, USCIS plans to grant expedited work permits for U visa applicants and, second, USCIS announced greater flexibility for U visa applicants wishing to include their spouses on their applications. There have been many changes to the DACA and TPS programs, which may affect your ability to apply. A judge recently ordered that USCIS stop approving initial DACA applications, but renewal applications should not be affected by this decision. TPS has been extended to several countries, including Venezuela, Syria, Burma/Myanmar, Haiti, Yemen, and Somalia. Please see the videos below in English and Spanish for more information:

Catholic Charities’ St. Frances Cabrini Center for Immigrant Legal Assistance provides a diverse array of immigration legal services in greater Houston. Our experienced corps of attorneys and legal professionals provide free and low-cost legal services to children who arrived in the U.S. alone, families seeking immigration assistance, crime victims, asylum seekers, and immigrants seeking to become U.S. citizens.
Information for Pro Bono Attorneys and Law Students
Volunteers are essential for providing services to the families we serve. The Cabrini Center seeks the assistance of pro bono attorneys for both litigation and administrative cases, and also accepts law student volunteers during the summer and during the school year.

We are dedicated to providing high quality, low-cost and pro bono legal services to immigrants and refugees who would otherwise not be able to obtain legal representation. Center activities include outreach, legal assessment and counseling, citizen application assistance, legal representation and advocacy. The Cabrini Center is the largest non-profit immigration legal service provider in Houston accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals to represent individuals in immigration legal matters.
We provide on-site and telephonic information sessions called Charlas, free of charge, three times per month at our office near the Galleria. Charla attendees learn about immigration laws and have the opportunity for a free consultation with an Immigration Attorney or Accredited Representative. Free Citizenship Workshops are also offered each month and staff provides citizen application assistance.
Please call the Cabrini intake line to register for a Charla consultation or request information at 713-595-4100.
Application assistance is offered for a person seeking to apply for U.S. Citizenship. No service fees for counsel, advice and assistance with applications. Attorneys and accredited representatives will be present to screen for eligibility. Pre-registration is required; no walk-ins accepted.
