Guided by God’s love, Catholic Charities helps people in southeast Texas by providing caring, compassionate services and advocating for social justice in collaboration with parishes and communities.

For more than 80 years, Catholic Charities has provided food, clothing, shelter and a network of support services to people of all ages and from all walks of life and religious backgrounds. We also promote social justice, serving as a voice for the poor and vulnerable.

Annually, we provide help and create hope for thousands of people as they create better lives for themselves and their families.

What is Catholic Charities?

For 80 years, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has provided food, clothing, shelter and a network of support services to people of all ages and from all walks of life and religious backgrounds. We also promote social justice, serving as a voice for the poor and vulnerable. We provide services to more than 85,000 people annually in the Greater Houston region as they create better lives for themselves and their families.

Does Catholic Charities only serve Catholics?

We serve people of all ages and from all walks of life and religious backgrounds, not just Catholics.

Are you the Church?

While we are a faith-based organization, we are not the church. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides human and social services to the Greater Houston region and surrounding areas. We do, however, collaborate with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and local parishes to address the needs in our community.

What areas do you serve?

We serve individuals and families in the ten counties throughout the southeastern area of Texas: Galveston, Harris, Austin, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Grimes, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Walker and Waller.

Where are you located?

We currently have offices in Harris County, Fort Bend County and Galveston County.

What services do you provide?

We have a range of programs that provide basic needs (food, clothing, emergency assistance, etc.), counseling, parenting education, services for seniors, women veterans and much more!

How is Catholic Charities and its programs funded?

Catholic Charities is funded by multiple sources: government and foundation grants, the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, individual and private donors (see our donor privacy policy), contributions from special events, program service fees and more. As a United Way agency and a member of Catholic Charities USA, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston also receives financial support from those agencies as well.

Are you supported by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston?

We do receive some funding from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, mainly through the Diocesan Service Fund (DSF); however, this only covers about 2% of our annual budget. Our Annual Operating Budget is primarily funded by state and federal grants and generous donations from foundations, corporations and individuals.
