Mental Health Support Shouldn’t Come with a Price Tag. And Now, for More Many in Our Community, It Won’t
All too often, the people who need mental health support the most are the ones least able to access it. At Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, we believe that cost should never be the reason someone doesn’t get help. That’s why, during Mental Health Awareness Month, we took two significant steps: opening our counseling clinic to the public and announcing that we now accept select insurance plans. Our hope is that more individuals and families can take advantage during their most vulnerable moments.
Opening Our Doors Wider
For many across our service area, this accessibility could change everything. Whether someone is facing financial stress, parenting challenges, trauma, or a major life transition, they can walk through our doors or log on from home to receive support from a licensed professional—without having to choose between counseling and putting food on the table for their families.
We are now accepting Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Cigna, and Optum. And because we recognize that insurance alone is not enough, we also offer services at a sliding scale based on household income, with no-cost options available through grant-funded programs.
The People Behind the Care
When people access our counseling programs, they have access to bilingual, licensed therapists with specialized training in trauma, children’s mental health, and maternal mental health. Our counselors not only bring their credentials and expertise but also their compassion to each session.
This month, we also announced that we have expanded into play therapy – an evidence-based approach that helps children process their emotions and build coping skills through structured play. For parents who have watched their children struggle to find the words to express themselves, play therapy offers a significant breakthrough.
