HOUSTON – Kids had butterflies and stars painted on their faces with glittering paint, while their parents sipped mimosas at the inaugural Share Your Blessings Luncheon on Saturday, November 16 at The Houstonian. The family-friendly event filled the ballroom and raised $147,000 for children and family services of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
The lively luncheon was scheduled as a launch for the holiday season, when families gather to express first to give thanks, then celebrate Advent and Christmas. Through their attendance, guests supported Catholic Charities in providing help and hope to nearly 100-thousand people through a network of life-changing programs that work together to alleviate poverty.
“Our Catholic faith teaches us to lift up those who are experiencing crisis or challenges in their lives,” said Catholic Charities President and CEO, Cynthia N. Colbert, MSW. “We are thankful for the support of those who help us reach out to those who are most vulnerable.”
Two couples served as co-chairs: Veronica and Nick Massiatte, and Ofelia and Vuk Vujasinovic. A highlight of the event was story time for the more than 100 children in attendance, when Cynthia Colbert read a colorful book to the children based on Psalm 92: “Give Thanks to the Lord.”
Catholic Charities also thanks the host committee for their dedication and support: Annie Arnoult; Marlene and Jay Casares; Ali and Darin Durkee; Christina and Ruben Flores; Michelle and Stephen Fraga; Amanda and Damon Gonzalez; Jessica and Travis Graham; Julie and John Granger; Georgia and Rick Harmon; Cathy and David Herr; Megan and Luke Hotze; Libby and Matt Kafka; Kristie and Kyle Kafka; Sofia and Owen Massey; Suzanne and Danny Massiatte; Audrey and Lee Mitchell; Nathalie and Steve Mohtashami; Maria and Eduardo Morales; Brady and Dan Peters; Pamela and Manuel Prieto; Casey and Skip Redd; Kim and Rob Sellers; Lisa and AJ Sullivan; Lauren and Sean Teare; Emma and James Tramuto; Marisa and Jeff Underbrink; Cindi and Omar Vidal; and Alia Wynne.
Special thanks to St. Michael’s Catholic School Choir for setting the seasonal tone, to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for their support, our event partners and to all of our donors, volunteers and supporters who helped make this event a success.
