Esperance Chibalonza and her family of nine arrived in the U.S. in July 2015 after fleeing violence in the Congo, arriving with her three daughters and her deceased sister’s four children.
Coming to the U.S. was difficult enough, but Esperance and her family had nothing, and finding work was difficult because she has no formal education.
Esperance and her family were assisted with the resettlement process in Houston through our Refugee Resettlement program. Her case manager helped her secure an apartment and find furniture, submit documents to be able to work in the U.S., school registration for the children, and rental assistance.
Although she now has a job at the Hilton Americas-Houston Hotel in downtown Houston, Esperance had no money to purchase Christmas gifts for her family.
But thanks to your support, Esperance and her family were able to receive gifts through Catholic Charities’ Share Your Blessings program, helping them experience the joy of the season. The family expressed how grateful they were to have a little extra help to make the holidays a little better.
