Catholic Charities' Refugee After School program

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston partnered with other organizations to provide refugee parents with helpful informational videos available in multiple languages.

Catholic Charities’ Refugee Resettlement program has partnered with other Refugee School Impact grant recipients to present informational videos to refugee parents on a variety of topics. These videos — translated into 10 languages — are designed to help inform parents about the American school system, culture

Participating organizations include: Austin Independent School District, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Catholic Charities Fort Worth, Catholic Charities of the Texas Panhandle, and Dallas Independent School District.

Videos are sorted by topic and available in the following languages: Arabic, Burmese, Dari, English, Kinyarwanda, Nepali, Pashto, Spanish and Swahili

Bullying

In this video created by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Antonio, the presenter discuses different types of bullying and its negative effects on children in school. The presenter also discusses signs that a child is being bullied, how to report to the school if a child is being bullied, and how to prevent bullying.




Tips to Support Your Child’s Learning at Home

In this video created by Austin Independent School District, the presenter discusses recommendations for parents who are supporting their children while learning from home. The discussion includes setting up a daily routine, providing a place and a time for homework, discussing with child his/her school activities, reading to children, monitoring screen time, etc.



COVID-19 and Hygiene

The video includes tips for general hygiene as well as specific tips for protecting oneself against COVID-19, symptoms of COVID-19, and what to do if a child has COVID-19 symptoms.
