You gave Ninfa hope and a sense of community.
Like most seniors, Ninfa is a simple woman. She’s been a widow for 16 years, navigating life as best as she can. Her life was on a non-stop cycle: going to work, coming home, resting, repeat. She was just grateful for being blessed with a roof over her head and food to eat.
Recently, she decided to enter retirement early, thinking she had done enough to save up so she could enjoy the rest of her days. She did not anticipate the increasing rise in everyday costs like groceries and gas.
“All of a sudden going from receiving a paycheck every two weeks to being on a fixed income, it was a reality check,” Ninfa said.
Ninfa found herself having to tighten her expenses more and more each month, until she realized she was in a financial deficit she couldn’t get herself out of. Bills grew as her finances shrunk; Ninfa quickly realized she couldn’t handle this on her own.
That’s until you showed up.
Thanks to you, Ninfa got access to Catholic Charities’ Mamie George Community Center, one of our hubs that serves residents in Fort Bend County. MGCC provided Ninfa with finances to help with her bills. She also got access to Trini’s Market, a self-select food pantry, and Patty’s Café, which serves hot meals to low-income seniors every weekday.
“I feel seen again,” Ninfa said. “Any of the benefits here are good for me. Thank you, Catholic Charities, for being such a great blessing.”
