HOUSTON – The Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., appointed Cynthia N. Colbert, MSW, to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas’ Houston Branch. Colbert is president and CEO of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
Colbert will serve a three-year term ending December 31, 2024. Of the seven members of the Houston Branch of the Dallas Fed, Cynthia is one of three appointed by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington. The rest are appointed locally.
As a board member, she will provide input on regional economic conditions as part of the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy functions.
“I’m humbled by the opportunity to share the social services perspective with my distinguished colleagues on this board,” said Colbert. “At Catholic Charities, we are keenly aware of the significance of a healthy economy, which serves as an essential foundation for lifting up the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Catholic Charities provides life-changing help to people of all beliefs through a network of social service programs. The agency responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by tripling food distribution at its food pantries. In addition, Catholic Charities was selected by City of Houston and Harris County officials to distribute more than $260 million in public funds over the last two years to families who experienced severe financial harm as a result of the pandemic.
Colbert served as executive director of Catholic Charities in Austin and Wichita, Kansas, in addition to executive leadership at United Way Capital Area Austin.
She is on the board of the Texas Executive Women, United Way of Greater Houston and Catholic Charities USA. She serves as Treasurer of the Network of Behavioral Health Providers and is a senior fellow at the American Leadership Forum.
