Sasha is a five-year-old who recently entered kindergarten this school year. While a bright student, she struggles constantly with anxiety, making it harder for her to transition to this different environment with new peers and teachers.
Her first few weeks of school were very difficult for her. Sasha found herself terrified having to leave her mother, resulting in frequent crying and refusing to enter her classroom.
These issues made it hard for her to feel safe and learn effectively while at school. Sadly, her family can’t afford health insurance that covers mental health care, so it was impossible for Sasha to receive the necessary treatment to alleviate her anxiety.
“I felt like I couldn’t do anything to help my baby,” Sasha’s mother, Tania said.
With no support and little to no resources, Sasha’s family was at their wit’s end. Until you came along.
Because of you, Sasha received consistent school-based support and mental health counseling. This gave Sasha the tools to manage her anxiety and cope with leaving her mother to go to school. She now transitions to her classrooms independently and is doing extremely well in her academics.
“I just can’t thank Catholic Charities enough,” Tania said. “My little baby is growing up so fast!”
