Food Distribution at Mamie George

Catholic Charities’ Mamie George Community Center in Richmond hosts monthly food fairs, and also weekday distributions.

Food Assistance

Trini’s Market is a self-select food pantry available to Fort Bend County residents over the age of 60. Registered participants can shop by appointment every couple of weeks and select a variety of fresh produce, proteins,  refrigerated and shelf stable products.

 

The Community Food Distribution is available to all in need of food assistance. Participants can attend one of our distributions on a weekly basis and receive fresh produce, bakery items, proteins, dairy and shelf stable products. No appointment is necessary.

Distribution Schedule is: Tuesday evenings from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM or Thursday Morning from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM.

 

Food for Change– The Mamie George Community Center is a member of the Houston Food Bank Food for Change program. Participants registered with the Food Scholarship or Food RX program can present their cards and  receive a 30lb box of fresh produce items and proteins when available. Cards can be redeemed during pantry open hours.

Senior Services

We support seniors in their efforts to stay healthy and active, volunteer, build friendships and live independently.

Other support offered include loving, listening hearts for hundreds of otherwise-isolated seniors, health and welfare monitoring, case management, nutrition education, referrals for mental health, benefits enrollment and/or restoration, social and spiritual needs, and emergency assistance. Financial assistance is available.

Senior Wellness

Senior Wellness
Our Senior Wellness program serves those seniors who are at least 55 years old. We offer numerous exercise classes including Line Dancing, Zumba, Stretch/Yoga and Silver Stretch & Tone, all taught by trained fitness instructors. Our fitness room includes a treadmill, elliptical machine and stationary bike, as well as weights and various other machines; our fitness instructor will instruct you on how to work the machines and get you started. Our Wellness Center is specifically designed for seniors with easy access to fitness equipment and we offer special exercise classes for wheelchair/walker-bound clients.

Creative Aging
Our beautiful art room offers a variety of classes including mixed media, painting, crafting and our popular “Around the Quilt” which engages discussion and a project about a different topic each month. In addition, we offer a variety of programs including Bingo, Medicare counseling, ESL classes, Bible Study, Holy Rosary, gardening and so much more! Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

The Mamie George Community Center provides Grandparents Raising Grandchildren workshops to help grandparents with the challenges of caring for their grandchildren. The workshops cover a range of topics, including computer training and information sessions about the legal and school systems, while children receive tutoring and homework help.

Gracious Gifts

The Gracious Gifts gift shop provides economical, dignified gift-giving opportunities for seniors. You can help by donating NEW items for sale, such as, greeting cards, jewelry, purses, scarves, slippers, socks, gifts for babies and children (for seniors’ grandchildren), nice toiletries, blankets/throws, seasonal items and gift bags. All proceeds support Mamie George Community Center programs.

Women Veteran Services

Women Veterans ICON NAME BLU

Catholic Charities Women Veteran Services offers hope for women who have served this country and are in crisis. We help through financial assistance for rent, mortgage, food, employment and education guidance, and through other services.
