Marie and her children were preparing for what should’ve been a routine move last summer. But Hurricane Beryl made it anything but routine.
There were days when she wanted to give up. But she didn’t, because you were there for her.
Marie’s lease was ending a couple of days before her new apartment would be available, but she had a plan. She had a little extra money so she planned to stay in an inexpensive hotel for a couple of nights until they could move into her new apartment. But she never expected that there would be a hurricane!
Hurricane Beryl damaged the apartment Marie was supposed to move into, plus it knocked out the electricity. Since she’d already moved out of their previous home, Marie’s family were in limbo. They could only afford two nights in a hotel, but they needed seven. To make matters worse, the storm closed the restaurant she worked in so she couldn’t work.
Because of you, Marie and her children got emergency financial assistance so they could stay in the hotel while their new apartment was being repaired. That hotel kept Marie and her kids off the street.
“You went above and beyond for me,” Marie said. “I wasn’t just viewed as a person looking for a handout. I was seen as a human being.”
Marie and her kids almost became homeless. But you came to the rescue, like you always do. Marie and her children are now settled into their new home, and she is grateful for the help you gave.
“None of this would’ve been possible without the help and care of Catholic Charities,” she said. “I can’t wait to become a donor so others may experience the hope and love I’ve received.”
