Houston

Pan de Vida Food Pantry – Food Fair
Number of Volunteers: 10 – 50+

Time Availability: 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., twice a month on Saturdays

Project Description: The Lowenstein Pan de Vida Food Pantry helps feed about 1,200 families each month. Volunteers are needed on specified Saturdays to assemble grocery bags for distribution to people in need at our bi-monthly food fairs.

Location: Pan de Vida Food Pantry at Catholic Charities’ Guadalupe Center 326 S. Jensen Drive, Houston, TX 77003 (MAP)

Notes: Available twice per month on specified Saturdays

Pan de Vida Food Pantry – Pantry Stocking

Number of Volunteers: 10 – 20

Time Availability: Tuesday – Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00pm

Fort Bend

Mamie George Community Center Food Fair (Fort Bend)

Number of Volunteers: 10

Time Availability: One Saturday per month

Project Description: Trini’s Market at the Mamie George Community Center helps feed low-income families in Fort Bend County. Volunteers are needed to sort, bag, and distribute fresh produce and other grocery items to people in need at the monthly food fair.

Galveston

Galveston Drive-thru Food Fair

Number of Volunteers: 10-20

Availability: Twice a month on Wednesday mornings

Project Description: At the Beacon of Hope Center on Galveston Island, Catholic Charities offers a variety of programs to address the needs in Galveston County. Volunteers are needed to pack groceries for individual families and distribute them to clients in a drive-thru or can assisting clients with the intake forms.

Host a Drive

Share Your Blessings – Host a Toy/Gift Drive

Number of Volunteers: 2 – 50+

Time Availability: Anytime throughout November/December

Project Description: Catholic Charities’ Share Your Blessings campaign provides toys and gifts to more than 6,000 children and families throughout the community each year.

Volunteers can host a toy/gift drive at their place of work to benefit this program. Toys/gifts are needed for children from newborn babies to 16-year-old teenagers. Blankets and toiletry items are needed for the seniors that we serve. Catholic Charities can pick up the donations once the drive is complete.

Women Veterans Program – Host a Toiletry Drive
Number of Volunteers: Any

Time Availability: Anytime

Project Description: Collect toiletry items for our female veterans and their children. Items needed are toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. Create individual toiletry bags for the families we serve.

Refugee Resettlement – Create Welcome Baskets

Number of Volunteers: Any

Time Availability: Anytime

Project Description: Refugees have long, arduous travels and sometimes come with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Help us welcome newly arrived refugees by assembling welcome baskets to ensure a warm and refreshing welcome. The basket will consist of items needed for a good first day in their new home here in Houston.

Assemble welcome baskets for refugees by placing the following items in a medium-sized laundry basket:

  • 2 bath towels
  • 2 hand towels
  • 4 toilet paper rolls
  • 2 bars of soap
  • 4 toothbrushes
  • 1 tube of toothpaste
  • 2 bottles of shampoo
  • 2 bottles of conditioner
  • 2 deodorants
  • Disposable razors (for men and women)

Blessed Beginnings – Fill a Diaper Bag

Number of Volunteers: Any

Time Availability: Anytime

Project Description: Many parents in our Blessed Beginnings program are in need of baby supplies and essentials to ensure their children have what they need to have the best possible start in life.

Help us fill a new diaper bag with much needed baby items for families:

  • Diapers (SIZES 0-6)
  • Baby bottles
  • Pacifiers
  • Baby shampoo and soap
  • Clothes (BOYS AND GIRLS SIZES NB-5)
