Catholic Charities has a variety of internship opportunities for Undergraduate and Graduate level students. Internships are available Monday through Friday during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. – 5 :00 p.m.). Please see current opportunities below:

About the Family Assistance Program
The Family Assistance Program prevents hunger and homelessness. In addition to providing food and financial assistance, we work with each family to determine their needs and connect them with other Catholic Charities and community services to help them move toward self-sufficiency.

About the Pan de Vida Food Pantry at the Guadalupe Center
Catholic Charities' Pan de Vida Food Pantry is located at our Guadalupe Center, one of several locations for our Family Assistance Program. The Pan de Vida Food Pantry serves families from any zip code who struggle to have enough food for a healthy life. On weekdays, families receive nutritious groceries from our food pantry. Two Saturdays a month, we host a large-scale food distribution in a farmers market-style setting.

Blessed Beginnings Life Center (Undergraduate internship)

Internship description: Volunteers will assist in maintaining/organizing the Baby Boutique donations, help with prepping for the parenting classes, sorting documents and educational hand-outs, distributing children's supplies, and other administrative requests

.

Duties include:

  • Help prepare material assistance for clients
  • Organize and prepare class materials
  • Assist staff with the preparation of classroom
  • Maintain resources directory and handouts
  • Assemble intake forms for clients and place in files
  • Make necessary copies for packets
  • Answer intake line to provide program information
  • Assist with various office projects

 

About the Blessed Beginnings Life Center
The Blessed Beginnings Life Center is committed to the sanctity of human life, offering support to parents from pregnancy through their child’s fifth birthday. We offer pregnancy and parenting classes, counseling and material assistance to help parents have healthy babies and children.

Location: 326 S. Jensen Drive, Houston, TX 77003 | MAP

TIME:  Flexible days and hours are available; Monday-Friday 9 am – 4 pm

COMMITMENT:  At least 2-3 months

Accounting

Internship Description: Students interested in a career in accounting or finance will receive valuable experience working in the accounting department at Catholic Charities. Learn about nonprofit finances, the importance of accountability, and help ensure the financial accuracy and health of the organization.

Duties include:

  • Assist Accounts Payable with W9 entry
  • Scan documents, filing and data entry
  • Assist other parts of the accounting team, with scanning and filing journal entries
  • Other duties your supervisor deems necessary

Children Services

Internship Description: Interns will participate in program meetings discussing youth cases, program updates and external stakeholder updates. They will also observe and participate in home visits and youth appointments, under employee guidance and supervision, assist with client transportation, along with a staff member.

Documents will be completed under the guidance of program staff. Interns will ensure documents are appropriately filed in client or foster parent records and assist in trainings for youth and foster parents.

Good for those studying social work, psychology, sociology, or human services.

Students must fulfill all requirements to be eligible:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a four-year university with a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must be competent in using Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Must commit to a minimum of two days a week for two consecutive semesters
  • Must pass an FBI fingerprint check as well as a drug screen and TB test
  • Times available: Monday – Friday 10 am – 2 pm, Saturday 9 am – 1 pm

About St. Jerome Emiliani Foster Care

Tens of thousands of refugee children arrive to the U.S. alone every year, mostly from war-torn countries where they have lost their entire families. Catholic Charities’ St. Jerome Emiliani Foster Care program provides a nurturing environment for unaccompanied refugee children and youth, many who have escaped devastating situations in their native lands. Through foster families and supportive services, we help them heal and thrive.

Location: Houston, Midtown area

Graduate Opportunities

Counseling

Internship Description: Positions are available in a variety of programs within the Counseling department.

Students must fulfill all requirements to be eligible:

  • Fluent in English & Spanish
  • Have availability for at least 2 weekdays during normal working hours (8 am – 5pm)
  • Commit to 2 consecutive semesters
  • Strong preference is given to students from local universities

About the Counseling and Behavioral Health Clinic
The Counseling and Behavioral Health Clinic helps families of any income level with everyday problems build healthy relationships and heal from trauma and grief. Our licensed bilingual counselors serve families in schools, at parishes and in other locations throughout the community. Counseling also is integrated into other Catholic Charities programs because overall health is essential to self-sufficiency.

Location: Houston, Midtown area

Blessed Beginnings Life Center (Graduate level internship)

Internship description: The primary role of this intern will be to meet with clients who need resources or additional support outside of classes. They will follow-up with clients who have had their babies or who have stopped attending classes. They will also help locate new resources for clients and look at possible information to share with clients. They will learn Blessed Beginnings funder’s online system BriteWorks and sign in clients electronically. They will learn our ETO database and track all referrals done with clients.

This internship is perfect for those going into social work.

Qualifications

-Must complete an FBI Fingerprint check

-Must be currently enrolled in a four year university

-Must be bilingual in English and Spanish

-Must be willing to stay a minimum of one full semester

-Working on an MBA or MSW

-Must have basic understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel

Requirements for Interning with Catholic Charities

If a student is accepted for the internship program, please note that other requirements include:

  • Approved affiliation agreement with university
  • Internship application
  • Cleared background check
  • Trainings with staff

Students should apply for internships at least one month in advance of desired start date to allow for processing time.
