Our volunteers are vital to our mission to serve people in need throughout the Greater Houston region. We invite your corporate group or organization to volunteer with Catholic Charities and provide your team with a tangible experience to making an impact on our neighbors in our community.

Corporate or Group Volunteer Opportunities:

Pan de Vida Food Pantry – Food Fair

Number of Volunteers: 10 – 50+

Time Availability: 8 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Project Description: The Lowenstein Pan de Vida Food Pantry helps feed about 1,200 families each month. Volunteers are needed on specified Saturdays to assemble grocery bags for distribution to people in need at our bi-monthly food fairs.

Location: Pan de Vida Food Pantry at Catholic Charities' Guadalupe Center 326 S. Jensen Drive, Houston, TX 77003 (MAP)

Notes: Available twice per month on specified Saturdays

El Rio Warehouse – Refugee and Veteran Donations

Number of Volunteers: 10 – 30+

Time Availability: Anytime from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.; weekends from 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Project Description: The El Rio Warehouse houses donations that benefit our refugee families. Volunteers are needed to sort and organize the donations and create "family packs" (items for apartments: blankets, pillows, sheets, etc.) for newly arrived refugees. Volunteers are also able to make greeting cards for clients.

Location: El Rio Warehouse, 1000 S. Loop W., Suite 150, Houston, TX 77054 (MAP)

Notes: Available on an on-going basis, at least once per month. Preference for Fridays and Saturdays, but can schedule on other days in advance.

Guadalupe Center – Food Pantry and Grounds Maintenance

Number of Volunteers: 10 – 30+

Time Availability: Anytime from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.; weekends from 7:30 a.m. –  noon

Project Description: The Guadalupe Center houses the Lowenstein Pan de Vida Food Pantry that helps feed around 1,200 families each month, and the Women Veterans Program. The Villa offers a home to homeless female veterans and their children, and needs monthly grounds maintenance and deep-cleaning of the center where the vets cook and their children play.

Notes: Available on an on-going basis, at least once per month. Mondays and Fridays, or a specified Saturday (Food Fair Saturdays only).

Share Your Blessings – Gift Assembly

Number of Volunteers: 2 – 50+

Time Availability: Anytime from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Project Description: Catholic Charities' Share Your Blessings campaign provides toys and gifts to more than 6,000 children and families throughout the community each year. Volunteers are needed throughout the month of December to sort and assemble gift bags for children and adults.

Location: El Rio Warehouse, 1000 S. Loop W., Suite 150, Houston, TX 77054 (MAP)

Notes: First three weeks of December, Monday through Saturday.

Share Your Blessings – Host a Toy/Gift Drive

Number of Volunteers: 2 – 50+

Time Availability: Anytime from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Project Description: Catholic Charities' Share Your Blessings campaign provides toys and gifts to more than 6,000 children and families throughout the community each year.

Volunteers can host a toy/gift drive at their place of work to benefit this program. Toys/gifts are needed for children from newborn babies to 16-year-old teenagers. Blankets and toiletry items are needed for the seniors that we serve. Catholic Charities can pick up the donations once the drive is complete. Volunteers can then come to the El Rio Warehouse to assemble gift bags.

Women Veterans Program – Host a Toiletry Drive

Number of Volunteers: Any

Time Availability: Anytime

Project Description: Collect toiletry items for our female veterans and their children. Items needed are toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. Create individual toiletry bags for the families we serve.

Refugee Resettlement – Create Welcome Baskets

Number of Volunteers: Any

Time Availability: Anytime

Project Description: Refugees have long, arduous travels and sometimes come with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Help us welcome newly arrived refugees by assembling welcome baskets to ensure a warm and refreshing welcome. The basket will consist of items needed for a good first day in their new home here in Houston.

Assemble welcome baskets for refugees by placing the following items in a medium-sized laundry basket:

  • 2 bath towels
  • 2 hand towels
  • 4 toilet paper rolls
  • 2 bars of soap
  • 4 toothbrushes
  • 1 tube of toothpaste
  • 2 bottles of shampoo
  • 2 bottles of conditioner
  • 2 deodorants
  • Disposable razors (for men and women)

Blessed Beginnings – Fill a Diaper Bag

Number of Volunteers: Any

Time Availability: Anytime

Project Description: Many parents in our Blessed Beginnings program are in need of baby supplies and essentials to ensure their children have what they need to have the best possible start in life.

Help us fill a new diaper bag with much needed baby items for families:

  • Diapers (SIZES 0-6)
  • Baby bottles
  • Pacifiers
  • Baby shampoo and soap
  • Clothes (BOYS AND GIRLS SIZES NB-5)

Location: W.T. & Louise J. Moran Health Center, John S. Dunn Building 2615 Fannin Street, Houston, Texas 77002 (MAP)

Mamie George Community Center Food Fair (Fort Bend)

Number of Volunteers: 2-25

Time Availability: 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Project Description: Trini’s Market at the Mamie George Community Center helps feed low-income families in Fort Bend County. Volunteers are needed to sort, bag, and distribute fresh produce and other grocery items to people in need at the monthly food fair.

Notes: Available one Saturday per month, usually the fourth Saturday
