Catholic Charities Hosts Leading Like Jesus Workshop Featuring Owen Phelps, Ph.D.

Men and women from across Greater Houston spent Oct. 19 learning more about the Catholic vision for leading like Jesus during an S3 Leadership Workshop hosted by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

“We were so fortunate to have the expert on this topic present this workshop in Houston for the first time,” said Cynthia N. Colbert, MSW, President and CEO of Catholic Charities. “Attendees loved having the chance to re-engage their spiritual compass and better understand how they can bring their faith into their work.”

S3 leadership is focused on understanding the roles of servant, steward and shepherd.

“Dr. Phelps helped leaders deepen their compassion for those in need and to see their role as Christian leaders in a whole renewed and focused light,” said Matt Johns, Catholic Charities’ Director of Mission Integration Programs. Phelps explored the depth and complexity of Christ’s personal and practical leadership example and called participants to follow in the footsteps of the greatest leader of all time.

The presenter is Director of the Yeshua Catholic International Leadership Institute and author of “The Catholic Vision for Leading Like Jesus: Introducing S3 Leadership – Servant, Steward, Shepherd,” as well as two other books: “The Believer’s Edge” and “The Secret of Wealth.” Phelps has facilitated S3: Leading Like Jesus encounters throughout the United States and in many countries abroad, but this is the first time the encounter has come to Texas.

He currently serves as editor and publisher of The Catholic Leader e-newsletter.

Phelps and his wife Jane, a CPA, have five grown, married children who have given them 17 growing grandchildren.
